Education: A Tool for National Transformation
The President of The National School Boards Association, Viola M. Garcia, EdD., wrote to President Biden, “America’s public schools and its education leaders are under an immediate threat. The National School Boards Association (NSBA) respectfully asks for federal law enforcement and other assistance to deal with the growing number of threats of violence and acts of intimidation occurring across the nation. … Now, we ask that the federal government investigate, intercept, and prevent the current threats and acts of violence against our public school officials through existing statutes, executive authority, interagency and intergovernmental task forces, and other extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of our children and educators, to protect interstate commerce, and to preserve public school infrastructure and campuses.” The purpose of the letter is stated, “NSBA respectfully asks that a joint collaboration among federal law enforcement agencies, state and local law enforcement, and with public school officials be undertaken to focus on these threats. NSBA specifically solicits the expertise and resources of the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret Service, and its National Threat Assessment Center. … As these acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials have increased, the classification of these heinous actions could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes. As such, NSBA requests a joint expedited review by the U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Homeland Security, along with the appropriate training, coordination, investigations, and enforcement mechanisms from the FBI, including any technical assistance necessary from, and state and local coordination with, its National Security Branch and Counterterrorism Division, as well as any other federal agency with relevant jurisdictional authority and oversight. Additionally, NSBA requests that such review examine appropriate enforceable actions against these crimes and acts of violence under the Gun-Free School Zones Act, the PATRIOT Act in regards to domestic terrorism, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, the Violent Interference with Federally Protected Rights statute, the Conspiracy Against Rights statute, an Executive Order to enforce all applicable federal laws …”
The controversy in Dr. Garcia’s estimation is a result of “School board meetings have been disrupted … because of local directives for mask coverings to protect students and educators from COVID-19.” and … “of opposition to critical race theory.” Dr. Garcia mentions specific states and one incident, “In Virginia, an individual was arrested, another man was ticketed for trespassing, and a third person was hurt during a school board meeting discussion distinguishing current curricula from critical race theory and regarding equity issues.”
What was the response of the Federal Government? Receiving the Letter from the NSBA on Wednesday September 29th, the response by Merrick Garland, Attorney General of the United States, was sent out the following Monday, October 4th. In this memo the Attorney General states, “The Department takes these incidents seriously and is committed to using its authority and resources to discourage these threats, identify them when they occur, and prosecute them when appropriate. In the coming days, the Department will announce a series of measures designed to address the rise in criminal conduct directed toward school personnel.
Coordination and partnership with local law enforcement is critical to implementing these measures for the benefit of our nation’s nearly 14,000 public school districts. To this end, I am directing the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working with each United States Attorney, to convene meetings with federal, state, local, Tribal, and territorial leaders in each federal judicial district within 30 days of the issuance of this memorandum.” The essence of the response is that the FBI will be watching the communication of parents and their responses to local school boards will be under surveillance by the Federal government, and parents mayl be subject to federal prosecution.
The official letter and memo of the NSBA and the Attorney General’s Office have left many parents wondering why such a strong response to their children’s education. The use of terms comparing concerned parents to domestic terrorists and the use of the FBI appears to be an attempt to squelch dissent to critical race theory, government mandates in local education, and in Virginia to a transgender bathroom policy. With the recent threats from hypersonic missile tests by China, the rise of threats from terrorism due to recent activity in Afghanistan, the crime and murder rates spiking in many cities, seem to many a better allocation of resource than federal policing of local school boards.
Parents underestimate the power of public education and the role that higher education plays in shaping the minds of those teaching in K-12. Those who wish to shape the Nation know that this is easiest accomplished by local indoctrination at K-12 schools. Parent’s input is seen as direct opposition to those ideals espoused by those who disciple the future teachers, our universities.
The sad truth is that the Virginia school board arrest involved a father whose daughter had been violently raped by a biological male in a skirt in a girl’s bathroom. Rather than validating the father’s appropriate anger over the school board’s handling of the situation. The same juvenile is reported sexually assault another girl at another school during the investigation. Parents are correct to be angry. The response of the Biden administration to call parents domestic terrorist if they are upset about transgender bathroom policies following sexual assaults does show the lengths that they will defend their agenda.
There has been an outpouring of support for the victims in the Virginia case but there is also an interesting move by the Biden administration, the very same Viola Garcia that penned the domestic terrorism letter has since that controversial letter been named by Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to sit on the National Assessment Governing Board. Politician’s reward those who advance their agendas.
On October 27th, Senator Ted Cruz pressed AG Merrick Garland on why he did not research the original letter by the NSBA. Senator Cruz specifically wanted to know what role the Attorney General’s memo had in protecting Panorama Education. Ted Cruz, along with two other senators have written to Merrick Garland, ““Your daughter, Rebecca Garland, married Alexander (“Xan”) Newman Tanner in 2018. Mr. Tanner is a co-founder of Panorama Education (“Panorama”), a “social learning” provider that provides consultancy services that reportedly aids schools in teaching critical race theory under the guise of “equity and inclusion” to America’s children.”
What appears to be happening is that we have an administration bent to pushing critical race theory and gender education at any cost. When parents are concerned and become vocal about the results of the policies, they collaborate with the NSBA and have an Attorney General pen memos using the full force of the FBI, which in turn will allow his daughter’s husband’s company to continue indoctrinating their given agenda. This sounds like the script from a dystopian futuristic movie, except we are seeing it played out in real life in front of our eyes. Children and University students need an alternative ecosystem to study, we are at a time in history where this can happen.
